Basis Of Faith

WE BELIEVE IN THE DIVINE INSPIRATION AND AUTHORITY OF THE SCRIPTURES. By this is meant the miraculous guidance of the Holy Spirit in their original writing, extending to all parts of the Scriptures equally, so that the result is the very Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice. Moreover, it is our conviction that God has exercised such care and providence through the ages in preserving the written Word that the Scriptures as we now have them, are in every essential particular, as originally given and contain all things necessary to salvation. 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:21; 2 Sam. 23:1-2; Jer 1:9 Matt.5:18, Acts 1:16.

2. WE BELIEVE IN ONE GOD, eternally existing in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Gen. 1:26; Matt 3. 16-17; 28:19; Jn. 15:26.

3. WE BELIEVE IN THE REALITY AND PERSONALITY OF SATAN;  that he is the arch-enemy of God and man; that he seeks to discredit and dishonour God and to deceive all mankind.  Isa. 14:12-17; Jn. 8:44

4. WE BELIEVE THAT MAN WAS CREATED in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God; that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and, in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, become sinners in thought, word and deed.  Gen. 1:26-27; 3:1ff; 2:16-17; Psa 51:5; Rom. 5:12; 6:23

5. WE BELIEVE THAT JESUS WAS BEGOTTEN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, and born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man.  Lk. 1:26-35; Jn. 10:30; Phil. 2:5-8.

 6.  WE BELIEVE THAT THE LORD JESUS DIED FOR OUR SINS according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice.  We believe that salvation is only in Christ and His blood, and that this salvation is a gift of God, receivable through faith alone, apart from any works on the part of the recipient, whose works up till the time of salvation have been “dead” and “wicked” works.
1 Cor. 15:3-4; Isa. 53:6; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-9; Heb. 9:14; Col.1:21.

7. WE BELIEVE IN THE RESURRECTION of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ASCENSION to heaven, and in His PRESENT LIFE THERE for us as High Priest and Advocate. Matt. 28:1-6; Acts 1:9-11; 7:25-26; 1 Jn. 2:1-2.

8. WE BELIEVE THAT ALL WHO BY FAITH AND REPENTANCE RECEIVE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST ARE BORN AGAIN of the Spirit of God, and thereby become children of God. Acts 20:20-21; Jn. 3:3-7; 2 Cor 5:17; Jn. 1:12.

9. WE BELIEVE THAT IT IS NECESSARY FOR ALL BELIEVERS TO MAINTAIN GOOD WORKS and provide things honest in the sight of all men; however, not in order to be saved, but because we are saved.
Matt.3:7-8; Tit. 3:8; Eph. 2:8-10; Rom. 12:17; Gal. 5:19-23.

10. WE BELIEVE IN THE GREAT COMMISSION OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST to give the Gospel to every creature, in both its worldwide and local emphasis.  Matt. 28:18-20; Mk.16:15; Acts 1:8.

11. WE BELIEVE IN THAT BLESSED HOPE, the PERSONAL and VISIBLE (bodily) return of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to this earth, where He will rule and reign. Tit 1:13; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Cor. 15:22-25; Rev. 20:6.

12. WE BELIEVE IN THE BODILY RESURRECTION OF THE JUST AND UNJUST, to the everlasting joy of the saved and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost. Jn. 5:28-29; Matt. 24:15; 1Thess. 4:13-18; Rev. 20:11-15.

13. WE BELIEVE THAT CHRIST LEFT TWO ORDINANCES FOR HIS CHURCH TO PRACTICE, namely, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  We believe that Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the Name of God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - symbolising the believer’s union by faith with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection.

14. We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a symbolic memorial feast by which we look back in faith to the cleansing blood of the Cross, we look up in love to our Heavenly Father as we feast upon the virtues (efficacy) of His Son, showing the Father what we have found in the Son, and we look forward in hope to our Lord’s promised return.  Matt. 26:26-28; Lk. 22:19-20; 1 Cor. 11:23-26.
